The Story Of Lucky |
Lucky showed up at our house on a cold January day as a very pitiful site. He was skinny with his ribs showing, he had mange and several sores on his ears and face. Since we already had a five year old German Shepherd, who had made it clear to this stray dog that he was un-willing to share his territory with another dog, I had no intention of keeping him.
So I decided to pen him up in the back yard and call the local dog warden to come and get him and take him to what I knew was a kill shelter. The dog warden said he couldn’t make it out that evening, but would pick him up the first thing next morning.
The dog warden showed up as promised the next morning and he and I went into the back yard to get the stray, but after looking for several minutes was unable to locate him, somehow he had managed to escape over night.Oh well, gone is gone no matter how it happens.
Two days passed and and two very cold nights where the temperature was below zero and both my wife and I assumed that the stray had probably frozen to death. That was until our German Shepherd located him under the floor of our out building in the back yard.I had to crawl under the room to drag him out and told my wife to hang on to him while I went to get some sort of rope to tie him up with so that this time the dog warden could find him.
I was only gone about five minutes but something happened in that length of time, my wife fell in love with this dog! We (read that she) decided that he deserved a chance, so instead of turning him over to the dog warden, we took him to the local Vet.
Well seven days later and $334.00 shorter on cash, we have another dog weather I wanted one or not.The Vet said he was mal-nurshied, had mange, and also had worms along with the various sores that needed treatment.
Well seven weeks later, you wouldn’t know this was the same dog. The Vet says “Lucky” is boxer pit bull mix and he is the most lovable and friendly dog that I have had the pleasure to meet. But, make no mistake about it, he is 100% my wife’s dog.She goes out to “visit” him four or five times a day with treats and a blanket to wrap him in because she says he get “cold” when he comes out of his dog hose to lie on her lap and she takes a blanket out to cover him with.
And if his energy and personality isn’t enough to win you over, just look at those blue eyes.
