The Story Of Rascal |
This is the story of Rascal the German Shepherd.Rascal came to us after we lost our beloved Rottweiler ” Bear” to a heart attack at the age of 10 years old. We thought we didn’t want another dog, but they are company for my wife when I am at work. So instead of looking for another Rottweiler, we decided that maybe we would get a German Shepherd. I don’t remember now how we found “Dumas German Shepherd Rescue” here in the county where we live, but we did and so we found Rascal, a 10 month old shepherd from a rescue organization in Georgetown. We fostered Rascal for two weeks to see if he liked us and also if we liked him. Well I guess the feeling was mutual, because Rascal has been with us for five years now, and if it is possible to spoil a dog, then Rascal is certainly spoiled. He has the run of the house and until recently when Lucky came along, was allowed to let himself out of the house and back in at will.He is having issues accepting Lucky and so we have to take him out on a leash to keep him from from going to the back yard fence and trying to attack Lucky. This is something that we are working on and I am confident that we will eventually work this out. I am not sure who will wear our first, me or Rascal.
Lucky showed up at our house on a cold January day as a very pitiful site. He was skinny with his ribs showing, he had mange and several sores on his ears and face. Since we already had a five year old German Shepherd, who had made it clear to this stray dog that he was un-willing to share his territory with another dog, I had no intention of keeping him.
